Cayfest Art Exhibition and Sale

Cayfest’s Art Exhibition and Sale, an opportunity for
local artists to show their work, at the Grand Pavilion
Commercial Centre, proved to be very popular with
artists who came to view one another’s work, and with
prospective art buyers, looking for a bargain.

The Cayfest Art Exhibition and Sale 2005 took place in the Grand Pavilion
Commercial Centre on West Bay Road on recently.
The yearly exhibition is a good way for local artists to exhibit and sell
their work, whether they are amateurs, and just beginning as artists, or
whether they are established, seasoned veterans of the art world.
The exhibition is exciting because anybody can exhibit in the exhibition,
there are no restrictions, and as an added bonus, entry is free.
The exhibition was divided into two sections: ‘Art’ (mainly paintings) and
‘Photography.’ The paintings were from a wide range of local artists, over 60
in all and too numerous to mention individually by name.
The many different artists’ work on display reflected many different styles
and painting techniques.
Particularly striking was Shigatsu, with ‘Let Us Love,’ a mixed media piece
on canvas.
Joanne Sibley had created a wonderful landscape in oil paints, called
Ivan’s Wrath, with colours and shades evoking the stark contrasts and eerie
light surrounding a violent storm.
The photography section was divided up into six sections: Animals;
Close-ups; Landscapes; Lifestyles; Portraits; and Underwater, and first,
second and third prizes were awarded in each section, plus an overall winner,
this year, who this year was Martina Nelson, for her photograph in the
‘Lifestyles’ section.
First in the ‘Animals’ section was Tim Mrochuk with his close-up profile of
a frog.
Letticia Davis came first in the ‘Portraits’ section, and James Fergusun in
the ‘Underwater’ section. Martina Nelson also came first in the ‘Close-ups’
section;’ and Cassie Puya in the ‘Landscapes’ section.
