LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Do the UDP members of Government sleep peacefully at night?
Thursday, May 12, 2005
Dear Sir,
I wonder if the UDP members of Government sleep peacefully at night. I
wonder if guilt keeps them awake, or do they have no conscience?
Mr McKeeva Bush, with the support of his UDP colleagues (I assume) gave
away the contract to build the port to a foreign company, (a foreign company
once again) for $3 million more than two local companies had bid for. Not only
is this money now leaving the Cayman economy, but the local companies could
have saved our Government $3 million, which we all know could have greatly
helped our education system and the HSA!
Worse still, this is not the first time. When you consider the housing
contract that was awarded to an Italian company based in communist Cuba (where
else, considering our Government's close ties with that communist country),
and the many other suspiciously awarded contracts to friends and supporters,
plus the $4 million spent on unnecessary travel, especially by the Tourism
Minister and his cronies, supporters and family, I pray that the Cayman people
will think long and hard before casting their votes on Wednesday.
Just ask ourselves if we can afford this waste any longer? Can we continue
to support family, friends and supporters of the present Government while the
country goes broke? Can we afford to give away our heritage for nothing, and
give away our heritage to certain persons who only care about themselves and
the almighty dollar?
I beg the Cayman voters to forget what they have received from politicians,
forget the favours, and vote for love of country and a Government you can
trust, a Government you can trust to help Cayman.
“If they buy your vote, they will certainly sell your country.” Remember,
if a politician has to buy your vote, they are admitting that they have
failed, because if they had done a good job during their term then the people
would not have to be looking for hand-outs, the people would be working and
making money for themselves. Vote for persons who can provide opportunities to
the people so that at election time the voters will not be looking for vote
casting money.
Vote right on Wednesday, vote for Cayman, and vote for future success. Do
not vote for persons who you will have to look for in 4 years time for more
handouts! This is our very last chance to get it right. Please think about it.
