Magical Madiba’s set the pace again as sumnmer touch rugby title race hots up
Wednesday, May 18, 2005
Defending champs Madiba’s Magic had another big win as did the Muppets,
Maples and Calder and HSBC in the Summer Touch Rugby event at the Cayman
Islands Rugby Union Club.
However, it is competition newcomers The Incredibles who now top the points
table on goal difference after a record 16-1 victory over Deloitte Two in
their second round game.
The Cable and Wireless Taniwhas had to settle for a draw against a much
improved Wreckers side and slide off the pace into sixth.
Five Nations got their season underway with a fine victory over rivals Gaelic
Warriors and moved up the table into seventh place.
In the top try scorers’ charts Phillip Labuschagne of The Incredibles has
opened up a big gap at the top of the try scorers’ table.
After just two games he has 11 tries - six more than his nearest rival Adrian
Porter of Muppets.
Five Nations’ ace Caroline Deegan (Five Nations), Rebecca McGinn of HSBC and
super athlete Alison O’Hare of Madiba’s Magic are equal at the top of the
female list with two tries apiece.
The highlight of Round Three appears to be the Thursday night clash between
the Muppets and a resurgent Maples and Calder. Both are unbeaten and won’t
want to slip off the pace.
Meanwhile, a weekend of world class rugby is in Prospect on June 18-19 when
the Deloitte Cayman Rugby Sevens are scheduled to take place.
The tournament will be held at the Truman Bodden Stadium where Red Rock, the
2005 Fijian Champions, will be returning to defend their title and will be
joined by teams such as the British Army, Gloucester Marauders, Froggies and
many more.
