LOCAL COMMENTARY

An impressive performance all round

I personally was impressed by the turnout of young voters in the recent Elections. It made me appreciate all the effort and work that I put in my recent articles, may have paid-off. It is almost as if my readers listened to my opinion, and they went to the poll and voiced their opinion on the Government they wanted.

I was really impressed by the people of the Cayman Islands exercising the right to vote.

They went out and made the effort and made changes. I would like to congratulate all candidates on their campaign and hard work; they all did a terrific job. I would have to say this election was the most enthusiastic, energetic and breath-taking event right to the end.

I would like to congratulate the members of the People’s Progressive Movement too. I was impressed with the presentation of their platform and their guest speakers. It is obvious that they made a tremendous impression on the people otherwise the voters would not have elected them to office.

The best part of the Election was the anticipation, as the anxious voters and supporters awaited the results. It was an accomplishment and a victory for East End, North Side, Bodden Town and George Town. I consider that was a good thing, a victory for all Caymanians.

The young and the old actually made a real change and supported the change till the end of the election. It was a fabulous time to enjoy hearing the crowd cheer ecstatically as the final box was counted and results were read out in George Town.

I am just very grateful for the turnout on Election Day, because a lot more young voters made the effort to use the ballot, even if the percentage was marginally less than the last election.

There are high expectations for the coming months, and high hopes of a new direction for the Cayman Islands. I strongly believe that they will keep to the promises they made during their campaign, and I personally will hold them to it.

But I would like to remind the new government that they will not only be representing their district but the entire Cayman Islands. Now is the time to start the healing process of division of the people.

My trust is in the new government. Let us give them the opportunity we gave the last government and see where it takes us.
