LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Enjoy your freedom of speech!

Monday,  May 23, 2005

Dear Sir,

I am a Canadian living in Canada where freedom of speech reigns supreme. I applaud your article urging everyone to speak their mind freely without fear of retaliation from the government.

I have never lived under such a fear and I find it very hard to imagine what that would be like. Here in Canada, even though we criticize freely any facet of government, they do not cower in fear of our criticisms, nor should they.

Nor do we worry about retaliation for speaking our mind. Hopefully they operate within the boundaries of the mandate of the voters. If not, then we expect them to answer to the voters for their actions.

Freedom of speech is everyone’s right. They may speak their mind also. This all makes for a very civil society where no one has to be anonymous.
I hope for the best for your new government and the Caymanians. Enjoy your freedom of speech!

Ronald Green
