BOULDER, USA – According to the Boulder Daily Camera, hundreds of active,
relatively young patients with deteriorating hip joints have joined the ranks
of so-called "medical tourists" heading to Belgium, India, Canada, and the

replacement which – because it is not yet FDA approved – is only offered at
about a dozen test sites in the United States.
Cayman Islands has highest visitor tax
KINGSTON, Jamaica – According to the Jamaica Observer, opposition spokesman
on tourism, Edmund Bartlett, says the Jamaican government should accept the
formula proposed by the tourism sector to reduce the tax burden on visitors,
in the interest of improving the competitiveness of the local industry.
Bartlett told the House of Representatives last week that the level of
taxation imposed on visitors was inhibiting the development of the tourism
sector and the country's ability to compete with other destinations in the
region.
Next to the Cayman Islands, Jamaica currently has the highest tax take from
visitors in the region, he said.

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Observer reports that the Caribbean's
vulnerability to hurricanes, flooding and other natural disasters is costing
the region's insurers dearly, Insurance Company of the West Indies (ICWI)
president Paul Lalor has said. The gross cost to ICWI to settle claims in
Jamaica, The Bahamas and Grand Cayman as a result of the 2004 hurricane season
was in excess of US$55 million or $3.4 billion, Lalor said at a company
function in Kingston.
