LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Why can’t we vote in the country we call home?

Wednesday,  June 1, 2005

Dear Sir,

You speak of "Caymanians and expatriates" in your editorial of 27 May. There are many people like my wife and myself, who are not allowed to be Caymanian, who have their life in Cayman and are not "expatriates". Why can't we vote in the country we call home? South Africa demonstrated that ethnically based systems are not tolerated. Why does the world allow Cayman to persist in such a system? Why do the people of Cayman, our home, allow this travesty? They are more worthy.

We trust the newly elected government will consider this as one of the ways to improve Cayman's standing as a leader in democracy in the region.

Lead by example!

James H. Dunnett
