Toasting the Teachers and Technology

Ms Gilligan reads congratulatory messages from IBM
senior executives.

Wednesday,  June  1, 2005

The Wharf restaurant provided the setting for recognising the dedication of a group of teachers towards the successful introduction of the ITALIC (Improving Teaching and Learning in the Cayman Islands) programme into schools. Hosted by Cayman Data Systems and IBM the ‘Teachers’ Night Out’ was a champagne reception and dinner to say thank you.

Since December 2002, the teachers have been diligently working with others in schools to learn about and train their peers on the integration of the technology into daily lessons.

During the celebrations, congratulatory messages were read from IBM executives, education leaders, principals and other school staff. IBM Team Leader Deb Davidson noted: “The messages all mentioned hard work, dedication, support, and smiles!  These are the traits most required in the teaching profession today and Cayman is indeed lucky to have such individuals in our schools.”

In attendance were the former Minister of Education, Roy Bodden; Chief Education Officer, Nyda Flatley; Deputy Permanent Secretary, Mary Rodrigues; IBM Education Executive for the Caribbean, Ms. Nancy Gilligan; Cayman Data Systems General Manager, Mr. Ken Hall, and Ms  Davidson, and messages of congratulations were sent to many people involved in the establishment and continued use of ITALIC. With teachers and staff on Cayman Brac also involved a similar event was held at the Brac Reef Beach Resort.
