Both parents and teachers joined Red Bay Primary School students this
weekend in the annual Walk-a-Thon. The event is designed to raise funds for
the various activities and resources the schools needs, with the children
gaining sponsorship for their efforts throughout the community.
“We organize a day for the students to walk, and there is a chance to swim
afterwards, “ said Principal, Mrs McLaughlin.
Companies in the community also donated prizes for students who have
collected the most sponsorship and this year the community was very generous.
“It was a very successful Walk-a-Thon at a time like this, after the storm,
when people have been trying to get back on their feet,” added Mrs McLaughlin.
The five-mile route saw the youngsters and the supporting adults walk from
Smith Cove beach to the South Sound Dock and Back.
At the end of the event the children enjoyed a refreshing swim at Smith
Cove with parents on hand, making the occasion a true family day out.
“Despite the weather we had a perfect morning for walking because it didn’t
rain and it was very cool,” added Mrs. McLaughlin.
