Queen’s Birthday Parade celebrations.

Her Majesty The Queen’s Birthday Celebration 2005 began in fine style on the morning of Saturday 11 June in front of the Legislative Assembly Building in George Town, Grand Cayman. As Members of the Legislative Assembly and other dignitaries were seated in marquees outside the building, people watched as all the uniformed detachments filed into Fort Street, where they stood to attention facing the Assembly. Everyone stood as a mark of respect as H.E. the Governor arrived, and faced the officers of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service.

All uniformed detachments stood proudly to attention as the Governor walked past on his inspection, sometimes pausing to chat with a member of the line-up.

The uniformed detachments taking part in the parade included the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS); Fire Service; Prison service; Cadet Corps; Girls’ Brigade; Sea Scouts; Cub Scouts; and Ex-Servicemen.

Chief Inspector Marlon Bodden of the RCIPS commanded the parade and the music was provided by the RCIPS Police Band.

Following the first verse of the National Anthem, HE the Governor received the 21-gun salute; hats and helmets were then raised aloft, in an exuberant “Three Cheers for Her Majesty The Queen.”

Reverend Alson Ebanks led those assembled in prayers for Her Majesty, which included thanks for God’s deliverance from peril during Hurricane Ivan.
After Rudy Myles sang the National Song, “Beloved Isles Cayman,” Hon Chief Secretary George McCarthy announced the presentation of honours and awards.

Recipients of Previous Honours and Awards included, The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (Civil Division); To Be a Member (MBE):

Colin Robert Ross, JP; Sherri Ann Bodden-Cowan; Harry Colvin Chisholm, JP; and Seth Thomas Bodden, JP.

Recipients of Cayman Islands’ Certificate and Badge of Honour (Cert. Hon.) included:

Frank Fernando Conolly; Annie Rose Scott; Charles Conrad Scott; Pastor Alden Anersley Ebanks; Loxley Elmslie McLean Banks; Paul Henry Richard Smith; Deanna Marie Lookloy; John Francis Richard Hew; Dr Gelia L Frederick-van Genderen; Darrel Benton Rankine; Crosby McDonald Solomon; Charles Jessup Smith; Clova Brenda Bush; and Leroy Elliott.

Finally, Joseph Ostroski, MD, received an honorary Cayman Islands’ Certificate and Badge of Honour (Honorary Cert. Hon) for service to the people of the Cayman Islands in the field of medicine.

Ending the parade, the Royal Salute was received by the Governor, before all the detachments marched away.

Afterwards, the Governor invited members of the public and all those who had attended the parade to the garden party in the grounds of Government House, where refreshments were served.

During the party, guests stood as the Governor led them in a toast to Her Majesty the Queen, who, he said, had showed great concern for the welfare of the Cayman residents in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan, and had asked him to keep her informed of the Islands’ progress in recovery.
