LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Recipients of HM the Queen’s Birthday Honours and Awards

Monday,  June 20, 2005

Dear Sir,

I can write only on my behalf, and this letter is to express my personal feelings.

It is amazing to see how these “Honours and Awards” are given!! One is given an O.B.E., yet in my humble opinion a more deserving person is given a Certificate and Badge of Honour.

If these “Honours and Awards” are handed out as a result of involvement in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan, then the powers that be should think hard and call to mind those deserving persons who have been overlooked.

I could name dozens and dozens of deserving Caymanians and others who have devoted themselves to service in the community, both before and after Ivan, but you would run out of space in your column if I tried to list their names. I leave that for ALL to think about.

My grateful thanks to those “unnamed” persons who serve out of love for these Islands and not for fame.

Zoe Berry
