A Model and a Scientist

Emily Bodden, a student at John Gray High School
loves science and hopes to be
a surgeon one day, but
right now she is looking forward to the ‘Faces of
Summer’ contest taking place on 25 June in the hope
of taking a step into the
modelling world

With a passion for the sciences fourteen-year-old student Emily Bodden who
goes to John Gray High School, lists Math, Chemistry and IT as her favourite
subjects. She says, by dedicating herself to her schoolwork, she hopes one day
to become a surgeon.
However, in the meantime Emily has just discovered how delightful being on
the runway can be and now modelling has moved to the top of her favourite
pastimes.
“When I took part in the ‘ICE Models Teen Jam In Your Closet Fashion Show’
at the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) Hall on 28 May, that
was my first time on stage for a show,” said Emily.
“I had always been interested in modelling but I never did anything about
it until I was approached by ICE models to participate in the ‘Faces of
Summer’ casting call on 23 April,” she explained.
Aside from a keen interest in science, and a budding modelling career,
there are other things about Emily that make her less than typical of other
girls her age. When asked about her favourite dish, instead of fast food Emily
named oxtail.
But much like her school friends and other young people, Emily likes going
out with friends, dancing, listening to music and has her sights set on
travelling abroad to further her studies.
“My favourite musical artist is Alicia Keys and my favourite top model is
Naima, the recent winner of America’s Next Top Model which is an event put on
by supermodel, Tyra Banks,” she said.
Emily who is now on the road to the huge-times-two ‘Faces of Summer’ event
to be held here in Cayman on 25 June also said:
“Recently I became so interested in modelling that I went on to an Internet
site to a modelling agency in Atlanta and sent some of my photos to them. They
have replied and are very interested in having me come up to them for the
summer.
“However, I think what I will do for the summer all depends on what happens
with my association with ICE models and the outcome of the contest on 25
June.”
Emily added how pleased she was to be associated with ICE models, not least
because of the training she has been getting since she was introduced to the
agency.
“Before I joined up with ICE I did not even know how to walk in heels,”
said Emily. “But now, with training, I am much more confident on stage,” she
revealed.
Asked to name another person in the world whom she admires and whom she
considers to be a role model, Emily named her mother. “My Mom is Vice
Principal of the Lighthouse School and she used to model when she was
younger,” said Emily proudly. “With my Dad away overseas, my Mom has kept me
focussed on my goals. She helps me not to give up when I am faced with a
difficulty and has even encouraged me with my modelling.”
‘Faces of Summer’ contestants who are first second or third place winners
move on to stomp the catwalk in the exciting Pulse Caribbean Model Search
contest in August and Emily, like many of the other contestants, hopes this
will be the start of bigger things to come.
