Royal Palms on the West Bay Road was the setting for the Boatswain Beach Cocktail Mixing Competition held last Wednesday evening (22 June).

The competition centred around creating a signature drink for the opening of the Boatswain’s Beach Bar, early next year. Taking part were 12 bartenders from various business establishments on the Island, all vieing for the prize of CI$1,000 and a trophy, together with the honour of creating the signature cocktail.

They were all required to mix two cocktails one alcoholic and one non-alcoholic, as the four judges although having a tough time making a decision, tasted each cocktail, without hesitation.

After an intense but tastefully intoxicating competition, Todd Stewart, a bartender from Breezes on the Bay was announced the winner, mixing the special drink for Boatswain’s Beach, known as the “Oasis Pina Colada”. Second place went to Stephan Canby from Café Med, but soon to be Saffaire Martini Bar, and there was a four-way tie for third place between, Jared (Sugar) French – Coconut Joes, Gary Carlson – Breezes, Batty Cox – Hammerheads and Jason Pierotti – Café Med.

With over 500 people in attendance, anyone who purchased a Bacardi drink at the bar was eligible to win tickets for two to any Cayman Airways destination. This lucky person turned out to be Cameron Macrae Smith.

Boatswain’s Beach thanked all the sponsors, who made this event a success, including X107.1 FM, Bacardi, Royal Palms, and Cayman Airways.
