St Ignatius Catholic School had their graduation ceremony on Thursday 23 June.

After the graduates entered to the sound of Edward Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance,” Master of Ceremonies, Jeremy Rice, invited everyone to sing the National Anthem.

During his address, the Principal, Kenneth W. McKenzie, wished the students well, as they came to the end of their educational journey at St Ignatius.

He also thanked the parents for choosing St Ignatius for their children.

“The St Ignatius experience is something more than sitting in a classroom,” he said, as he explained that the spiritual aspect of the students’ education was an integral part of that experience.

During the Graduation Address, Father Paul Abbas spoke on Jesus’ parable of the neighbour who asks for three loaves of bread at midnight.

“Midnight is the time when one day ends and a new day begins. This is the end of your time here at St Ignatius, but it is the beginning of something new,” he said.

Father Abbas said the loaves represented the need to satisfy a hunger. “This world teaches us that material prosperity, that getting a better car or house makes us happy,” Father Abbas said. “But we know that these things alone are not enough to satisfy.”

He went on to give the names Faith, Hope and Love to each of the three loaves.

“These three qualities,” Father Abbas said, addressing the graduates, “that you will need throughout the rest of your lives, and without which, you will always experience hunger.”

Later, the Hon Alden McLaughlin, Minister for Education, gave out the graduation certificates and Morgan Da Costa gave the “Student of the Year” award to Ridhima Kapoor.
