LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Churches are hurting your tourism

Tuesday,  July 5, 2005

Dear Sir,

I’ve been to Grand Cayman on vacation and diving 19 times, usually two weeks at a time. The archaic no-dancing policy affecting one of every seven days I’m there has been a big part of my recently taking my two or three times yearly vacation weeks in Jamaica and Mexico.

The article mentions that they haven’t had complaints from tourists. Obviously these aren’t being passed on, and tourists generally don’t know to whom to complain.

We tourists don’t spend our thousands of US dollars to come to Cayman for the churches. Blue laws in the US long ago passed into the category of “curious laws” along with pulling cars to the roadside for horses to pass.

Your churches are hurting your tourism, but I see Caymanians turning a blind eye toward them. This is evidenced by their music being somehow “accepted” despite the law.
