New estate on Cayman Brac selling fast

Developer, Kent Rankin stands by his new estate.
Monday,  July 11, 2005

The fourteen homes in a housing estate on Cayman Brac’s Bluff are on track for completion in August.

Rankin’s Estate, built by developer Kent Rankin, otherwise known as “Biggie”, is located in Charlottes Road, in a virtually undeveloped area on the Island. Mr Rankin said that so far, seven of the fourteen houses have been sold and, with a number of enquiries about the other houses, he is hopeful that all of them will be sold before the estate is complete.

The pre-built homes are part of the first development of its kind on Cayman Brac, and Mr Rankin claimed there was a definite need for it on the Island.

“I see Cayman Brac moving ahead now,” he said. “I think because of the style of living and the stressful feeling Hurricane Ivan brought on people in Grand Cayman, they will use the Brac for relief. If you catch them now, while they have that sort of feeling, you will see development here.”

All houses in Rankin’s Estate are 1,626 square feet, on parcels of eleven or twelve thousand square feet, with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, patios and central air. Buyers can choose between three different designs.

Mr Rankin has already developed four estates on Grand Cayman - two in Northward and two in Bodden Town - and all sold well, he said. With the apparent success of this first project on Cayman Brac, he plans to build five more houses in the estate and a home for himself close by.

He said that several people asked him to build individual homes for them on Cayman Brac, but he was not interested in that type of construction.

“Most Caymanians are copycats. I love to create my own style. I’m a leader in whatever I’m involved in.” He added that there is a market for reasonably priced townhouses on the Island.

“I am so pleased with the welcome that I got from people on Cayman Brac, both with this construction and with my Paramount Store in Spot Bay. I am pleased with the way they have supported me,” he said.
