Of all the organisations with a vested interest in ensuring we are all
prepared and protected from the impact of hurricanes those in the insurance
sector probably are the most concerned.
It is no surprise then that local insurance firm Island Heritage has
published their own hurricane handbook.
Entitled Survive 2005, the manual is a free guide compiled with information
from hurricane authorities, weather experts, and public utilities and is
filled with advice and smart tips on preparing for and surviving a major
hurricane.
“Proper preparation is crucial,” explained Island Heritage CEO Brian
Murphy. “Last year Hurricane Ivan taught us the importance of preparedness and
how to manage the challenges of a hurricane. We drew from our personal
experiences and compiled information from various hurricane authorities to
produce this handbook as a public service to the people of the Cayman
Islands.”
The manual includes valuable information on what to do before, during and
after a major hurricane.
“We’d like to encourage people to pick up a copy of Survive 2005 as soon as
possible,” he added.
Survive 2005 is endorsed by the National Hurricane Committee and will be
available to the public at the Island Heritage office, Cayman Insurance
Centre, Butterfield Bank, Scotiabank and FirstCaribbean.
It will also be made available to people who send in the Island Heritage
coupon which appeared in all three newspapers from Friday, 8 July.
“We also want to remind the public of the importance of adequate insurance
coverage,” Mr Murphy said.
“Underinsurance is a serious issue, so Island Heritage is now helping
combat this problem by offering full home insurance risk valuations for $450.”
Independent and professional Quantity Surveyors will conduct the valuations
for approximately 40 percent off the regular fee until 31 October and anyone
taking out an Island Heritage Policy, can get a further rebate of 50 percent
off the valuation.
Established in 1996, Island Heritage Insurance Company is a Cayman
Islands-based property insurance provider. With a rating of A- (Excellent)
awarded by A.M. Best Co., Island Heritage takes pride in offering an excellent
level of service and a variety of products, all of which have successfully
attracted and retained a wide cross section of the property insurance market
in the Caribbean.
