This year, children at the Agape Church’s Vacation Bible School were
treated to the sights and smells of Jerusalem more than 2000 years ago at the
Vacation Bible School last week.
With the theme: “Jerusalem Marketplace,” the children helped to recreate a
market day in the holy land during the time of Jesus when, the inside of the
church was transformed into a traditional marketplace.
The recreation showed special landmarks too such as ‘Where Jesus walked to
the cross.’
“We are taking the children through all the event’s of Jesus’ life,”
Pearline Donalds, Vacation Bible School Director, said. “We thought it was
appropriate to re-create the atmosphere of Jerusalem at the time of Jesus as
closely as possible, and we have actually got some authentic items from
Jerusalem.
“We have some spices from Jerusalem, some Frankincense and Myrrh, and we
have some water from Israel, some from the River Jordan, and some from the Red
Sea.”
We have the children divided into 12 tribes, of Israel, and given each of
the groups the Jewish tribal names.
There was also a Synagogue recreated, complete with scrolls, and “Rabbi,”
Tom Saldeba.
