Golf tournament to raise funds for Red Cross

Tuesday,  July 26, 2005

THE International Red Cross has played a very important role all over the world when communities have found themselves in need. This was ably demonstrated in 2004 when disaster struck the Cayman Islands. But occasionally even the helpers need help.

The eighth annual Red Cross Golf Tournament, sponsored once again by The Royal Bank of Scotland, will take place on Sunday 4 September 2005. This year’s event takes place at the Britannia Golf Course with a shotgun start at 8:00 am, and again at 1:00 pm.

Event organiser Peter Milburn says that only one team of four per hole will be allowed for the morning start, and the same for the afternoon start, to keep things on the course moving. This means that a maximum of 36 teams will be fighting it out for the beautiful RBC trophy.

Those who have the skill, or luck, to score a hole-in-one can look forward to cars being offered as grand prizes. There will also be a beautiful gold coin on offer for the closest to the pin prize. These are only some of the great prizes on offer on this special day.

At the conclusion of the event, there will be a closing dinner, bringing the perfect close to a perfect day.

After a turbulent 2004, during which the Red Cross was able to help a community in need, this tournament provides the people of Grand Cayman with an opportunity to say thank you.

As this is the only major fundraiser that the Red Cross will be running this year, it is imperative that it be a success, in order to assure the effective future operation of the Red Cross in the Cayman Islands.

Mr Milburn encourages the golfing and non-golfing public to support this fundraising event for the local Red Cross branch. Companies wishing to contribute can also sponsor holes, and gain some valuable advertising in the process, all while supporting a very worthy cause.

The event promises to be a great day out, and in support of an organisation that has done a lot to support communities the world over in times of need.
