Cayman athletes work it at Pan Am Juniors

Last weekend saw a team of four athletes from the Cayman Islands compete at the Pan American Junior Athletics Championships held in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The team was composed of Carl and Carlos Morgan, Kemar Hyman, and Tyrell Cuffy. The team was accompanied by team manager Jerry Harper and coach Kenrick Williams.

With the Morgan brothers taking five medals between the two of them at Island Games, and both Cuffy and Hyman setting personal best times at the recent World Youth Championships, the team was on good form.

The Morgan brothers competed in the javelin and long jump events, with Hyman and Cuffy joining them for the 4x100 metre relay.

In the javelin event, Carl and Carlos were up against some tough competition. Carlos finished in a very credible eighth position, with brother Carlos just behind him in ninth.

In the long jump event, the brothers reversed their positions from the javelin event, with Carl taking ninth position, one place ahead of Carlos in tenth.

In the 4x100 metre relay, the team ran their hearts out, finishing in an excellent sixth position in a time of 41.49 seconds. The event was won by the team from the USA in a time of 39.36 seconds.

The USA completely dominated the competition, taking home a massive total of 57 medals. Their haul included 22 gold medals, 24 silver medals, and 11 bronze medals. Next on the medal table was Canada with 18 medals, followed by Cuba, Jamaica, and Brazil.

With the USA taking most of the medals on offer, only 19 of the 45 nations participating in the Pan Am Juniors could get on the podium.
