Net News women stealing the show

Nicky Watson and Desmond Seales
Friday,  August 12, 2005

It may be a man’s world but at Cayman Net News it’s all about the women. So far this year women have been stealing the employee of the month award on a regular basis and last month it was the turn of Nicky Watson, who is Cayman Net News’ Sister Islands’ Bureau Chief.

Last month however she spent two weeks at the George Town office standing in for Associate Editor Wendy Ledger and having done such a great job there was no doubt in the mind of Desmond Seales, Publisher and Editor- in-Chief, who deserved the ‘Employee of the Month Award’ for July.

“Nicky is an integral part of our team,” said Mr Seales, who added that Ms Watson had done a great job while Ms Ledger was away and thanked her for stepping in and helping out. “It was wonderful having her here in Grand Cayman where she did a terrific job looking after the news desk as she does week after week looking after the news and features from the Sister Islands. She is consistently contributing well-researched news stories for Cayman Net News as well as the high quality work she produces for the Bracker and Little Caymanian.

He added that the success of the Friday supplement, produced by the Sister Islands Bureau Office, headed by Ms Watson with the help of her assistant Shariffa Chantilope was something to be extremely proud about.

“The Bracker has been a great addition to Net News, and seems to be getting more and more popular on the Sister Islands,” he said.

With the growth of the Sister Islands supplement Ms Watson has been working hard on The Brac and Little Cayman to help Cayman Net News reach all of the people of the Cayman Islands and she really enjoyed spending sometime working with the head office staff on Grand Cayman.
“It’s wonderful to have the chance to really get to know all the members of this wonderful team,” said Ms Watson.

Accepting the award from Net News Publisher Desmond Seales at a staff meeting, Ms Watson thanked everyone who had supported her through the period of learning a new job.

“It was a tough challenge, especially because I don’t usually work in this office. But all the staff was really great and enormously helpful. It was so nice to get to know everyone better.”
