A new salon in Catboat Plaza, Stake Bay, provides perfect grooming for hair and nails, and is offering a special discount for the whole month of August.

Courtney Morris opened the business recently to cater for those who live in the Stake Bay area, and runs the Perfect Beauty Centre with his wife Marcia, a hair stylist who also does manicures and pedicures.

“Marcia always talked about having a salon and I thought it was feasible,” said Mr Morris. “We wanted to offer the service in this area, where we felt it was needed. So when we saw this space become available, we thought it would be an ideal location,” he added.

“You have to have backbone to start a business and keep it going here on Cayman Brac,” he said. “I keep very busy so I don’t worry too much.” Mrs Morris said she always wanted to be a hair stylist.

“As a child, I loved to beautify my hair,” she said. Mr and Mrs Morris have a fully trained staff:

Yanique Jackson is a stylist for both men and women, and also does braids, rope twists and invisible braids. Vertical styles, layer cutting and hotcurl, are popular, too, she said.

The salon has had lots of customers, both male and female for the braiding, said Ms Jackson, who worked for four years in a salon in Spanish Town, Jamaica.

Casey Ann Ranger is the salon’s nail technician, and her service includes sculpture with nail form or acrylic build-up, and a wide colourful range of nail art for customers to choose.

She trained in Jamaica and had eight years experience in Kingston producing nails that look just right, before bringing her skills to Cayman Brac. Ms Ranger also does toe tips, which she wears herself, and says that, when she first came, there were many people who wanted to try her special nail art talent.

Philip Barrett has ten years under his belt as a barber in Highgate, St Mary, and cuts head and facial hair and eyebrows on women.

Mr Morris takes pride in the cleanliness and friendliness of his salon, which also sells skin care products, beauty aids and hair treatments.

When he’s not at work at Kirkconnell’s Market, or working on air-conditioning units, Mr Morris is usually involved with sports.

“After a hard day, it’s the best community activity – playing cricket or soccer,” he said.
