Earlier this month we reported on the Cayman Islands athletics team at the Pan American Junior Athletics Championships. The event took place in Windsor, Canada, right across the border from Detroit in the USA. The team has now returned to Cayman, and along with them, pictures of the event, courtesy of team manager Jerry Harper.

The athletes performed very well, in spite of some unfortunate scheduling that meant that Carl and Carlos Morgan had to compete back to back in their two events, the long jump and the javelin.

The 4x100 metre relay team also set a new Cayman Islands Junior Record with their time of 41.49. This was enough to place them sixth in the final, ahead of the Bahamas and Columbia.

According to team management, the event was extremely well organised, and was the first event to be held on a brand new track at the University of Windsor. The dormitories in which the teams stayed were less than 400 metres from the track and other facilities, which meant that there were no transport problems.

The team from the United States completely dominated the event, taking much more medals than all the other teams put together. However, this was a very good experience for our athletes, as the level of competition was very high.

The team consisted of brothers Carl and Carlos Morgan, as well as Kemar Hyman and Tyrell Cuffy. They were accompanied by their coach Kenrick Williams, as well as team manager Jerry Harper.
