Constructing brain friendly lessons

Trevor Hawes
– educational specialist and
keynote speaker at the
Private Schools Conference
Monday, August 22, 2005
A professional development conference will be held on Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 August, at Cayman Prep and High School hall on Walkers Road for teachers form all the private schools on the Island.
The Keynote speaker will be Trevor Hawes – educational motivator extraordinaire – who has proven to be a tremendous inspiration for teachers on previous visits to the Cayman Islands.
Mr Hawes is a leading authority in the UK on teaching and learning. He uses the latest neuro-scientist research to explain how the brain learns and how teachers can construct “brain-friendly” lessons.
He is in great demand internationally, having worked with over 30,000 teachers in the Americas, Asia, the Middle East and throughout Europe.
As noted by Mr Hawes the need for a good education should be at the top of every parent’s priority list, but teachers alone cannot provide this.
Education has to be a joint effort, with all stakeholders involved working together towards a common goal.
With this in mind, Mr Hawes is anxious to also meet with parents. So on the evening of Monday 29 August, the general public is invited to the Cayman Prep and High School hall at 7:30 pm. to enjoy his highly informative presentation.
There will be a suggested donation of $10 at the door.
The Private Schools’ Association is an organization comprised of representatives from all the private schools on the Island.
It meets regularly to discuss matters of common concern, to pool and share professional expertise and to promote inter-school activities. A spokesperson for the association said: “We are delighted to once again welcome Mr. Trevor to Cayman. Please make the effort to avail yourself of the opportunity to hear him personally on the evening of the 29, you’ll be glad you did!”
