Support for the newly opened Little Cayman Research Centre, project of the
Central Caribbean Marine Institute (CCMI) is catching on as visitors and
residents alike become familiar with the project.
This past weekend, long time visitor and part-time resident of Little
Cayman, Jeff Smith donated a supply of polo shirts from his North Carolina
based shirt manufacturing company, American Cottons.
On hand to receive the shirts was CCMI’s President Dr. Carrie Manfrino,
manager of LCRC, Jon Clamp and CCMI Executive Council member Nikki McCoy.
“We are so grateful for the donation of the shirts to the Little Cayman
Research Centre. These will make excellent staff and student shirts with our
logo,” explained Dr. Manfrino.
“We embrace any opportunity to liaise with the public and familiarize them
with our initiatives here and incorporate their support and help as we seek to
preserve and learn from this pristine environment.”
Mr Smith who first came to the Island in 1984 to dive with McCoy’s Lodge,
fell in love with the relaxed and tranquil atmosphere and the pristine diving
offered on world renowned Bloody Bay Wall.
He was so mesmerized with the lifestyle that in 1992 he purchased land on
the north side of Little Cayman and built his vacation home “Rock Bottom,” in
1994.
Since then Mr Smith has purchased a condominium at Neptune’s Berth on the
south side overlooking Owen Island and continues to visit several times per
year with his family.
