Water Employees’ commitment celebrated

The Water Authority celebrated its employees’ excellence and awarded thirteen of them for their outstanding performance during the last quarter of 2004 and the first quarter of 2005.

During this time, many had experienced and were still recovering from their personal hardships but continued to show their commitment to the Authority, going above and beyond the call of duty, ensuring that the best service was provided and customers were satisfied, at times working long hours.

Those receiving awards for the last quarter of 2004 were the metering branch of the Customer Service department, along with staff from other departments, namely Bruce Watler, Martin Tedd, Reyna Scott and Marcella Martinez-Ebanks.

George Hydes (Metering Supervisor), Claude Morgan and Highmoreland Ebanks (Senior Meter Readers) and Curtis Richards and Jerry Archer (Meter Readers), were awarded for their efforts as a team and were presented with individual plaques to acknowledge this.

They were reminded that they are an integral part of the Customer Service Department as their efficiency andc ommitment is vital to the continued development and sustainability of the Authority.

Martin Tedd, Design Engineer, was recognized for helping the Authority get things back to order after Hurricane Ivan, while Bruce Watler, Heavy Equipment Operator, was not only applauded for his commitment to the Authority, particularly his role in training other Heavy Equipment Operators, but also for his contribution to the community.

Reyna Scott, Senior Accountant, was particularly commended for being a great team player and for taking on additional responsibilities within the Finance Department during staff shortages while Marcela Martinez-Ebanks, Senior Laboratory Technologist, was praised for her commitment, working long hours ensuring that quality control standards are met.

Kennedy Kelly, Superintendent-Vehicle & Equipment, received the individual award for the first quarter of 2005.

In presenting the award to Kennedy, Operations Manager for Collection Systems, Joe Gadsby, described Kennedy as being dedicated and hardworking.

“Kennedy spent many weekends and late evenings ensuring that the equipment and facilities were secured and repaired during the Hurricane Ivan recovery period,” said Mr Gadsby.

The team award for the first quarter of 2005 was awarded to the Customer Service Representatives, Zulema Ramos and Dominique Ebanks (Senior Customer Service Representatives) and Latanya Stephenson (Customer Service Representative.

In presenting the awards to her staff, Joanna Welcome-Martinez applauded the entire Customer Service department.

“Our staff has always shown that they value our customers and have always risen above their own personal challenges to provide courteous and efficient service, ensuring that customers are satisfied. For this they must be commended”, Mrs Welcome-Martinez stated.

Commenting on the awards, Director Dr. Gelia Frederick-van Genderen stated, “We are proud of everyone’s hard work, and dedication and look forward to their continued success. Congratulations to those awarded, you truly deserve it”.
