New computer courses set to start

Getting to grips with computers

Monday,  September 5, 2005

Micro Matrix and the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce have partnered up to offer new computer courses focusing on Microsoft Office and Quickbooks as part of the Chamber’s professional development series.

Wil Pineau, CEO of the Chamber said that Micro Matrix has developed a great selection of computer courses.

“Micro Matrix has done a great job developing courses for persons who require introduction and advanced training to the most popular computer software programmes in use in the world of work today,” said Mr Pineau. “This new partnership allows members an opportunity to enroll in a variety of computer training courses which are in great demand at the moment.”

Managing Director of Micro Matrix, Sandra Catron said the demand for staff with solid computer skills continues to grow but there have been few facilities on the Island to provide training.

“The need has quadrupled after Ivan because there are no other facilities on island that can accommodate computer based classes and no one else is doing IT training, it seems,” said Ms Catron.

“We have been having a lot of demand for classes on our end as well so we decided to get together and work out this programme.”

Ms Catron said that courses offered will include Word, Excel, Outlook, and Quickbooks and will most likely branch out into other courses starting in November. In addition, the courses will be offered at beginner and advanced level to meet that demand.

“We will also offer a pre-Quickbooks accounting course to give a basic background in accounts so that they will be able to adequately use that program,” she said.

Courses will include both hands on training at a computer and class participation. Schedules times will vary, but several courses will be designed to fit around working schedules such as Saturday morning.

“Each student receives a workbook and their own computer system to work on. They also receive assignments etc. that they are to complete. Depending on which course they take they will be able to learn basic to more advance application skills,” she added.
