LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Raw exhibition why so hidden?

Monday,  September 12, 2005

Dear Sir,

I recently attended the Raw Exhibition which was held at Al Ebanks’ studio on Shedden Road. I love art and as a native Londoner and a recent Cayman resident, I love art in all its forms and was blown away by the exhibition.

It is clear we have some amazingly talented and brilliant artists here who deserve support.

So I was really surprised to overhear that this exhibition was hidden in Mr Ebanks’ studio, because the National Gallery refused to put it on.

I am dumbfounded and would love for someone to explain exactly why not? I would’ve thought any country who has such talented people producing such great work they would want to shout it from the roof tops.
I know art causes controversy all over the world from the bricks at the Tate to art students going for weekends in Ibiza and calling it an art project to get funding.

But beautiful and moving, as well as visually challenging paintings and sculpture are not controversial. I don’t get it.

W. Pierson
