US Health organisation donates 1,000s of books
Friday, September 16, 2005
A US-based health care firm has come to the assistance of
local kids with a generous donation of books.
Advocate Health Care, of Illinois, is a frequent visitor
to the Cayman Islands having established a captive insurance company here.
Scott Beckman, Director of Risk Management after hearing
about the destruction of Savannah Primary School’s library in Hurricane Ivan,
took it upon himself to organize a book drive at the firm.
Based in Oak Brook, Illinois, the organization of
physicians and health serves the health needs of individuals, families and
communities in northern Illinois.
Seamus Tivnan, of Marsh Cayman - which manages Advocate’s
captive insurance company said that he could not thank Scott enough.
“After Ivan, a lot of people offered help, and many were
a life line for us, some offers however diminished as we moved farther away
from the event and perceptions were that we no longer needed help,” he said.
“Scott persevered in his efforts to organize this book
drive, even whilst his organization was responding to other major relief
efforts - such as the December Tsunami.
“His determination was driven by a need to say ‘thank
you’ to the Island and it’s people for the excellent friendship, hospitality
and service it has afforded him over the years. On behalf of the students of
the School, I would like to thank Scott and his wonderful staff and Cayman
Airways for their assistance in transporting the books.”
Savannah Primary School PTA president Mark Scotland said:
“On behalf of the students and staff of the school, I would like to thank
Seamus Tivnan of Marsh Management and Scott Beckham of Advocate for their
thoughtfulness in arranging for this contribution of books, it is sincerely
appreciated. I would also like to thank Cayman Airways for their assistance in
providing shipping for the books from Chicago.”
