Annual ‘Cricket v Rugby’ Charity Game for Daniel Morris
Friday, September 23, 2005
Although the traditional season opener between the Rugby
Club and a cricket invitational team was cancelled due to Hurricane Ivan last
year, this year it is back, and for a very worthy cause.
The game will take place on Saturday 24 September at the
Smith Road Oval from 2:00 pm.
The organisers have arranged some sponsors for the day as
well. “The good folks at Heineken have kindly offered their support for the
event and as such we will be selling cold drinks throughout the day at a very
reasonable price. And of course a BBQ will be served throughout the day to
soak up any of the excess,” said Mike Johnston on behalf of the organisers.
The game will be played under 20-Twenty rules, which
should make the action sharp and exciting, even for those who occasionally
find a five day test somewhat longwinded.
The Cricketers will be obvious favourites, although the
rugby club claim to have a couple of handy cricketers within its ranks in
order to ensure that they are competitive.
All proceeds from this year’s event will go to the
recovery fund for Daniel Morris, the Cayman Islands Policeman who is in a coma
in Miami while receiving treatment for CADASIL. Both the Greenies Cricket Club
and the Cayman Rugby Union would like to invite all of their respective
members to come down and show their support for this very worthy cause.
