Born into a family that made a sterling name for itself in Cayman in the field of residential and commercial cleaning for quite a few decades, Dean Woods along with his wife Suzanne, now own and operate the four-year old company in a same field – Dean’s Cleaning.
For Dean and Suzanne Wood, one good thing has led to another. Mr Wood’s expertise with interior cleaning and interior care of residential and commercial properties has seen them move in other areas, providing services for the construction, refurbishing and care of the exterior of buildings as well under the name Enviroseal Cayman.
The Woods are now well-known in the residential and commercial cleaning industry, not least because of their advanced technology and excellent customer service.
With two children, aged six and seven, Dean and Suzanne Woods say they devote the right amount of time to the company to push ahead of the competition and still have time for family.
They manage this not only because of Mr Wood’s fourteen years of experience in the business but because of attention to detail which has helped to build the couple’s name in the industry.
“Before joining my husband full-time in the business, I was in the financial industry,” said Mrs Woods.
“After leaving school I went straight into banking in 1995 and I remained in the field until 2004, almost ten years. After Hurricane Ivan, the demand for Dean’s cleaning services grew to the point where after working all day at the bank I was also putting in many hours in the company.
“So at that time, I decided that everyone would be better served if I brought my years of experience in the corporate finance world, into the business.
“For me, calling the customer after the job is done just to find out if they were satisfied with everything, is just as important a part of our service as our self-contained vans that provide all the electricity, water and other things needed to the jobs.”
Detailing some of the services offered by Dean’s, Mr Wood said the firm offered multiple services from truck-mounted steam cleaning for hard floors, carpets and upholstery.
“We do pressure washing for the exterior of buildings, and we offer pre and post-construction cleaning services,” he said.
“We do leather and vinyl care for automobiles and boats. In addition, our services include tile and grout cleaning and sealing, water extraction, mould and mildew remediation and air purification.
“We offer a warranty on all the work we do. Our staff complement is growing to meet our demands so that jobs are consistently carried out to meet the standards we have set in the market.
“All of these services are offered for clients with residential or commercial properties. We also have corporate clients who form a significant part of our consistent client base. It would be virtually impossible to say which of the three groups compose the greatest percentage of it.”
Sitting in their West Bay Road, mustard and white, newly-built office – constructed just like a Cayman-style dwelling – Mr and Mrs Wood said, they are excited about the future. “Enviroseal is a new company that we were ready to open from October last year,” added Mr Woods. “However, we only actually got off the ground in June 2005. The building care we offer through Enviroseal is based on the use of environmentally safe products.
“We are distributors for Enviroseal products. The biggest seller is the Roof Guard. This is a professional sealing product. It is just like spraying Crazy Glue over your roof shingles to provide protection against damage from the wind and other elements.
“The product helps your roof become one solid, protective mass. It is reported that roof strengths increase up to two hundred and fifteen per cent. The product is highly recommended and Enviroseal recently received feedback from a homeowner who went through Katrina. That person’s home was the only one in a complex of 25 homes that had Roof Guard on, and, it was the only roof not damaged.
“We have sealers for all kinds of surfaces including marble, concrete, terrazzo, wood and asphalt. Duraseal is a concrete and brick sealer that eliminates efflorescence and inhibits the growth of algae, mould and bacteria.
“The asphalt sealer is a preservative that has quick drying times and is field-tested and used by the U.S. Air Force. With this product we carry out the seal coating and striping of parking lots.”
He explained that wood-Guard is a wood and walkway sealer that also prevents the growth of bacteria and algae and offers moisture protection.
“For us, we are pleased that we can offer such a wide range of services for residential and commercial properties with products that are environmentally friendly,” added Mr Woods.
“The ratings of the products we use are even way below those stipulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). There are therefore no harmful effects to the environment from their use.”
Talking about their offices at the intersection of the Harquail Bypass and West Bay Road that cannot be missed, Mrs Wood said that as they were located on the tourist strip the office was designed in the old Cayman style to maintain the kind of look for the building that tourists, perhaps coming from areas with high-rise buildings, would appreciate.
“Though we have been complimented on the building, it is still a work in progress,” she said. “ We have many more plans for it, and for the businesses.”
