Cadets’ Passing Out Parade goes with a ‘crash’

Parade.

Cadets demonstrated their practical leadership skills,
by taking charge during a dramatic reconstruction of a
head-on collision.

The Cayman Island Cadet Corps’ Batch 003 Passing Out Parade took place at Cadet Headquarters, First Assembly of God Church, Old Crewe Road, on Saturday 24 September.

The ceremony was attended by HE the Governor, Bruce Dinwiddy, and his wife, Emma Dinwiddy, as well as Chief Secretary, Hon George McCarthy.

After Mr Dinwiddy’s arrival was greeted by the cadets’ salute, the cadets stood to attention while Mr Dinwiddy inspected them.

Next came the recitation of the Cadets’ Promise.

Later in the ceremony, the assembled dignitaries and the cadets’ parents were treated to a demonstration of the cadets’ practical training, during the dramatic enactment of a two-car accident.

The demonstration began when two cars, driving towards each other, apparently met in a head-on collision (there was actually a gap of about a foot left between them.)

Cadets in each of the cars pretended to be injured, while another cadet, in civilian clothes, rushed up to the scene. The cadet quickly assessed the situation before calling for assistance.

Other cadets gathered at the scene of the ‘accident,’ where they attended those who had been made up with red paint, to look as if they had been injured. This gave them a chance to show their first aid skills.

The cadets succeeded in demonstrating their ability to tackle a difficult situation in a disciplined way, a feat that clearly impressed the Governor who watched attentively, as well as all the cadet’s parents, friends and family who had been invited.

All who had been invited stood as a mark of respect as the Governor left, before awards were given to the cadets.
