LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Stop the newspaper vendors!

Friday,  October 7, 2005

Dear Sir,

Permit me to complain in your newspaper regarding the street vending of the Caymanian Compass currently taking place in this country. This is an unsightly and very un-Caymanian practice that should not be allowed here.

Not only does it have a cheapening effect on our society but it also places the young vendors in danger, as they run in and out of moving traffic to sell these newspapers. Amazingly, our police claim that they are unable to do anything about it even though they see the danger!

My question is: what will happen when one of these young people are accidentally injured or killed? Will the authorities wait until then to attempt to do something?

This is yet another part of an unwanted culture in our society and I am calling on our authorities to put a stop to it. I have personally boycotted the Caymanian Compass and will no longer buy it as a direct result of this disgusting marketing tactic.
