The Cayman Airways Sprint Meet will be held this Saturday, 15 October at the Lions Aquatic Centre.

The event will start at 9:00 am, with 58 events in the standard age-group format.   All four strokes will be on the programme, with distances of either 25 or 50 metres, depending on the age category in which the swimmers are competing.

This will be followed by the 100 metre individual medley events.

One lucky meet participant will win a Cayman Airways ticket in a random draw at the end of the event. Cayman Airways has long been a solid supporter of Cayman Swimming at all levels of the sport, from developmental meets to the Olympic level.

The public is encouraged to come out and support the swimmers, as they build on Cayman’s proud history in the pool. Refreshments will be available at a concession stand. If the meet runs according to schedule, there are also plans for a fun relay race involving swimmers, parents, and spectators. Prospective participants can sign up for the relay at the meet.

The meet is run by the Stingray Swim Club, and will be fully officiated.

Stingray Swim Club recently reiterated its commitment to the development of even the least experienced youth swimmers when they initiated the ‘burner’ format, a developmental meet designed to expose young swimmers to competitive swimming.

The success of this format was recently demonstrated by the Cable & Wireless Burner meet.

Saturday afternoon will see the CIASA two-mile sea swim taking place at the beach opposite the Courtyard Marriot. Registration for the event will start at 2:30 pm, with the event starting at 3:00 pm.

The next event on the competitive swimming calendar is the Mike Lockwood Memorial Pirates Week Meet, scheduled for 4 to 6 November. The meet will feature a full roster of events, with competitors from Jamaica also scheduled to compete.

Entry forms for the Cayman Airways Sprint Meet should be available from the Stingray Swim Club on Wednesday. Entry forms are also available at www.caymanswimming.com.
