The Cayman Islands Real Estate Brokers Association (CIREBA) has donated $15,000 to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) to help start and support local neighbourhood watch programmes.

CIREBA’s partnership will help provide neighbourhood signs, t-shirts and also assist in the funding of other resources needed for the programme.

James Bovell of RE/MAX Cayman Islands and President of CIREBA said that the Association’s support of Neighbourhood Watch efforts is a key way of demonstrating how being proactive can increase awareness and help in the effort to eliminate crime in Cayman.

Derek Haines, Acting Deputy Commissioner of the RCIPS said that the partnership between CIREBA and the RCIPS would help to protect homes, property values and neighbourhoods as a whole.

“CIREBA’s involvement comes at a beneficial time for Cayman.  Prevention is the best weapon to use against crime,” Acting Deputy Commissioner said.

Recently promoted Chief Inspector, Adrian Seales will be overseeing the Neighbourhood Watch Programme. He is optimistic that neighbourhood watch will receive the same level of success as received elsewhere.

Jeremy Hurst of IRG Real Estate Ltd. local affiliate of Knight Frank and Vice President of CIREBA pointed out how important the scheme is to combating local crime.

“Neighbourhood watch is one of the most effective ways to prevent crime, attend to home and personal security, address the safety of our children and the elderly and reduce fear and isolation.

“CIREBA is pleased to be able to offer this type of support to the Cayman Islands and feels that this partnership is an ideal fit with CIREBA’s goals of building stronger and safer communities, which benefit us all. We encourage residents to join this important programme, ” said Mr Hurst.
