Members of the Cayman tourism industry were very active
this week brining aid to the hurricane ravaged Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico,
and participating in a conference in Chicago Illinois.
In addition, the New York Magazine highlighted the Cayman
Islands, as one of the places to vacation.
The New York Magazine released on 2 November featured in
its Everything Guide to the Caribbean Grand Cayman and Little Cayman in two
different sections.
Little Cayman was listed as “one of the next ‘It’
islands”, including popular activities such as kayaking and diving Bloody Bay
Wall, amid the island’s pristine surroundings.
Additionally, the new eco-friendly bungalows opening at
Southern Cross Club should be an attractive option for eco-conscious
travellers. An underwater photo of a diver at Bloody Bay Wall was in the
section.
The Seven Mile Beach is named as the “Best Beach for
Non-swimmers”, describing the consistently warm and calm waters found along
the stretch of powdery white sand.
New York Magazine has a circulation of 427,825, and its
readers are those who want to keep a finger on the pulse of New York City, its
people, politics, culture, and hot trends.
Meanwhile, representatives from the Department of Tourism
along with private sector members recently participated in “The Motivation
Show”, a leading US incentive travel show held in Chicago, Illinois.
Members representing Red Sail Sports, the Grand Cayman
Marriott Beach Resort, the Westin Casuarina Resort & Spa, and Lions
Productions were at the function, hosted at McCormick Place.
This annual show is the world’s largest exhibition
dedicated to motivation in business.
This year, “The Motivation Show” targeted over 5,000
meeting planners and retail travel agents. Representatives had a chance to
inform these attendees about the Cayman Islands and the generous incentive
programmes the destination has to offer, including the Cayman Rewards
Programme and the Cayman Specialist Programme.
“We were pleased with the interest by the Incentive
Buyers for the Cayman Islands,” stated Donald Foste, Senior Manager – US Sales
and Marketing, Department of Tourism.
“The message that the Cayman Islands is back and doing
well has been delivered to this important market sector.”
In other news, the Tour Company Cayman delivered 2000lbs
of food and medicine to victims in the area of Mexico affected by Hurricane
Wilma.
Bryon Kelly director of operations at the Tour Company
said, “After the trials we went through with Ivan we understood how difficult
a time this must be for our Caribbean neighbors and wanted to offer help in
any way we could. The owner of The Tour Company (Gene Thompson) initiated the
idea and we then decided to make it happen.
“We were amazed at how our community offered help when we
decided to go forward with this project. We were literally turning away offers
for items because of the weight restriction on the airplane.”
