The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) is an international organisation geared towards providing anti-fraud training and education and, now there is a local chapter of that body in the Cayman Islands.

Of the ACFE’s 35000-strong international membership, some 40 people in Cayman were already associated with the parent organisation.

Speaking with Cayman Net News Interim, President of the local ACFE, Pierre Lautischer said, “On 7 November 2005 at 10:30 am, the first meeting of the local ACFE Executive was held in the Board Room of the National Pensions Office.

“Our Association here will now be recognised as one of the many worldwide chapters of the US-headquartered organisation.

“ACEF is a professional organisation. The mission of the organisation is to reduce the incidence of fraud and white-collar crime to assist the membership in its detection and deterrence,” added Mr Lautischer.

The presence of a local ACFE chapter has usually served to inspire public confidence in the integrity, objectivity and professionalism of Fraud Examiners in the different countries.

Mr Lautischer explained that ACFE provides bona fide qualifications for Certified Fraud Examiners through administration of the CFE Examination. He also said the organisation, “sets high standards for admission, including demonstrated competence through mandatory continuing professional education. It also requires CFE qualified personnel to adhere to a strict code of professional conduct and ethics.”

Interim President of the Association here, Mr Lautischer, already holds the CFE qualification, as well as another member of the new Executive, Paulman Hui. Other Cayman ACFE Executive members are Secretary/Treasurer, Russell Smith, and Norma Williams-Seymour.
