'The Little Details' to note

Lisa Ebanks, Interior Designer

The ‘put-together’ look of a traditional living room.

When you take a look at a designer decorated room, every little detail has been coordinated and thought of to complete the room.  You can easily decorate yourself once you have the basics.  Take for example this traditional living room and how it’s put together.

The larger items, the sofa and loveseat fabric has a floral pattern which coordinates nicely with carved intricate details for the legs along with the base of the cocktail table plus the colour of the marble inserts match the sofa fabric on its body.  The rug has hints of green which is the main wall colour and is also picked up on the drapery panels.  The dark wood blinds create contrast and depth against the white trim for the windows, built-in shelves and baseboards.

All accessories and artwork are in the same tones as the fabric colours and traditional styles.  Keep in mind the room basics which are needed for function such as lighting fixtures and switch plates can also be switched out with a traditional style usually at very little cost. Keep this in mind in your budget when re-doing your next room.
