LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Are we losing the plot completely?

Wednesday,  November 16, 2005

Dear Sir,

Are we forgetting the numerous armed robberies, gangland murders, not forgetting the shooting incident at the George Town Hospital?

We brought this hard-hitting, crime-busting top cop over here to try to reverse the ever increasing trend in violent crime that the Cayman Islands have been experiencing over the past year, and all you can do is bring up an incident that happened twelve years ago, which has clearly been dealt with.

What do you hope to achieve by doing this, other than creating more unrest within the community?    Perhaps we should all take a long hard look at ourselves and maybe we would see that we have all done something that isn't by the book!

Granted Police officers should be squeaky clean, however, they are human and do make mistakes. The point is that this was twelve years ago and he appears to have proved himself more than capable of dealing with and reducing violent crime.

Give the man a chance to help the Cayman Islands become safe again.

Are we forgetting how desperate we all were six months ago!  Do we really care about his past or are we desperate to have the right man for the job?  We need to look to the future and stop picking faults with people. What's the point?

The Commissioner has a difficult enough job as it is so let's not make it even harder.  After all he has come here to help us and we need him more than he needs us.  The Commissioner is not here to make friends he is here to bring the RCIP into this century and fight the evil we have walking amongst us.  In doing this he will undoubtedly ruffle some feathers within the RCIP and the gangs that have found so much freedom to break the law.

I for one will give him the benefit of the doubt and my full support.

B. Simon.
