  • Minister McLean: ‘I am not crying’
I think the Cayman Islands Government should seriously consider opening a High Commission in Jamaica, if not now in the future, because for me I will never part with my passport for such a long time. Even a day is too much for me. It will take time (to report the loss to the police) and money for me to get a new passport.

    Unreasonable airfares to Cayman
First off allow me to commend the pilots and crew of Cayman Airways for excellent service. However, the fares are considerably out of balance when compared to other Caribbean destinations. Even fares from US cities to the Pacific region or Europe are more affordable than a short flight from Florida to the Cayman Islands. It should be obvious that a country dependent upon tourism dollars needs to get the tourists there.

Great essay. If you haven’t already seen it, you might want to check out our Flash slide show, “Pristine?” at www.shiftingbaselines.org.  Maybe you want to do something similar for the Cayman Islands.

My Take …For what it’s worth
Can Ms. Hay define sell-out? Do you believe this person was or is a Jamaican?  I was reading her nonsense, then was shocked to find out she is Jamaican-born. Can you imagine me a Jamaican in America acquiring citizenship and talking about my fellow-countrymen like that? Doesn’t she realise she is a paper Caymanian and can theoretically be kicked out like the rest of them?

    A Gentle Giant
I am writing from Orlando FL. My husband and myself have the opportunity to move to the Cayman Islands in early 2006. We have just received some really upsetting information that our dog Max that we have had from a puppy cannot come with us because he is a Rottweiler.
We have no children – he is it. Max is an extremely sweet dog that has been through professional training and is neutered. He would not hurt anyone or anything. Is there ever an exception to this rule, it seems very unfair to categorize all Rottweilers. PLEASE HELP!
    Kind Regards

    The spanking argument
Spanking instills anger and shame. It can make kids withdraw or harbour resentment. It teaches kids that it’s okay to use violence to solve conflicts. It trains children to avoid getting caught doing wrong rather than to not do wrong in the first place.
