House’s Manager, Martin Richter

Friday,  November 25, 2005

The Cayman Islands National Recovery Fund benefited from Grand Old House’s three-day Rum Festival held last month, when the restaurant donated a percentage of the proceeds.

Grand Old House gave the fund a contribution of $1,174.00.

The festival, the first of what is planned to be an annual event, displayed some of the Caribbean’s and the world’s finest rums.

As part of the festival, acclaimed Cuban artist Angel Rivero Sierra’s works of art were exhibited and made available for sale. Jacques Scott sponsored the artist’s participation in the Festival.

Held from 13 – 15 October, the Rum Festival featured workshops with rum experts, rum tasting and cooking classes.

Executive Director of the National Recovery Fund, Dr Mark Laskin accepted the donation from Grand Old House’s Manager, Martin Richter.

“The Fund is delighted with your efforts on our behalf and we appreciate the work of the staff at Grand Old House and of the event sponsor, Jacques Scott for this fundraiser, which brings yet another generous donation to the Fund,” Dr Laskin said.

Established on 23 September 2004, the Cayman Islands National Recovery Fund is a private, independent, charitable trust, focused on helping those most vulnerable – the elderly, disabled, ill and families with young children – to restore their lives and recover from the devastating effects of Hurricane Ivan.
