DOT helps in fight for human rights

Friday,  December 16, 2005

The Department of Tourism has made a contribution to the fight for human rights by donating a vacation package to the Robert F. Kennedy Centre for Human Rights.

The package will be auctioned off at the charity’s 15th annual Golf Tournament and Dinner Dance at the home of Ethel and Ted Kennedy in Hyannisport, Massachusets and includes non-stop, roundtrip airfare from Boston and a five-day stay for two compliments of Cayman Airways and the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman.

Since its inception in 1968, The Robert F. Kennedy Memorial has aimed to fulfill the legacy of Robert Kennedy through promoting the full spectrum of human rights within the United States and throughout the world.

Today the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial is a nonprofit charitable organization that works to realize his dream of a peaceful and just world through domestic and international programs that help the disadvantaged and oppressed, build our next generation of leaders, and tackle the toughest problems facing our society.

Bidding for the package began on December 1 and ends this Friday, 16 December at 6:30 pm. Interested bidders can access the auction online at www.charityfolks.com

As one of the most popular lots in the 100+ line-up, the current bid for the Cayman Islands travel package is $3,255.

Judith Akerman, District Marketing Manager for the US Northeast, announced details of the prize package, on behalf of the Cayman Islands, at the annual charity gala.  Robert F. Kennedy Jr. personally thanked Akerman and the Cayman Islands for their generous donation.

Also on hand enjoying the festivities were numerous influential celebrities including Susan Lucci, Bill Murray, Jaclyn Smith, and Bill Russell.

“Along with the generosity of the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman and Cayman Airways, the Department of Tourism is pleased to offer this prize-package to the RFK Center for Human Rights,” said Akerman.
