Santa comes to Community Park Party

Friday,  December 23, 2005

As children everywhere count down the days till Christmas, the kids on Cayman Brac have a number of events to look forward to leading up to the Big Day.

In line with the tradition, Santa made another appearance on the Island on Saturday 17 December, this time at West End Community Park (WECP).

With holiday excitement building, the children’s party at the park is an annual event for the festive time of the year with a true community spirit, organized by the volunteers of the WECP Committee, and sponsored by local churches and individuals.

As well as making full use of the park’s swings and climbing frames, the children played in the bouncy castle and enjoyed free cotton candy until, as they have come to expect, Santa and Mrs Claus arrived by truck-drawn sleigh, laden with candy and presents.

All the kids had the opportunity to pose with Santa on his sleigh for photos, which will later be developed and distributed to parents and guardians.

Gifts this year were courtesy of Crossroad United Baptist, Stake Bay Baptist, Fellowship Baptist, Ebenezer Baptist and Hillside Chapel.

Food and candy were sponsored by Billy’s Supermarket and L&M Superstore, while Martin Keeley resumed his annual role as photographer for the park party.

WECP Committee Chairman Mark Tibbetts also thanked Kevin Foster for helping out with the bouncy castle and cotton candy, and, of course, Santa and Mrs Claus for taking the time in their busy schedule to visit the West End Park.

“I’d like to thank all the sponsors and the WECP Committee members for their help, and to the community for coming out and supporting this event. We look forward to everyone’s continued support next year.

“On behalf of the Park Committee, I’d like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,” added Mr Tibbetts.
