The Cayman National Cultural Foundation is launching its fifteenth annual National Playwriting Competition, and is inviting all writers who think they have what it takes, of every age, to participate in the contest. The competition is open to anyone who is resident in the Cayman Islands and is divided into two categories:

The first category is for young people aged 17 years and under and includes Best Skit $100, Best One-Act $200. A special prize of $50 may be awarded for Best Comedy.

Skits should be 10 to 20 minutes in playing time. One-Act Plays should be 30 to 45 minutes long.

The second category is for all of those aged 18 and over: the first Prize One-Act play is $500, 1st Prize for a Full Length play is $800, plus your play will be performed on stage. A special prize of $100 may be awarded for Best Comedy.

One-Act Plays in this category should be 30 minutes to 1 hour long. Full length Plays should be 1 hour to 2 hours long.

All submissions must be typewritten (double-spaced), clearly state the title and author(s) of the work, and the entries should be accompanied by a typed synopsis. This should also be copied to a labelled CD. The deadline for submission of play scripts is March 31, 2006.

Any play submitted that is determined as ‘below standard’ will not be formally critiqued or judged.

All plays submitted must be the original work of the author named and mailed or delivered to The Artistic Director, Cayman National Cultural Foundation, 3rd Floor Elizabethan Square, P.O Box 30201 SMB, Grand Cayman.
