Cricket season swings into action

Friday,  January 13, 2006

In what promises to be a very exciting sporting weekend, local cricket is set to bowl off its season with two festival matches.

Defending champions of the Money Express Divisions 1 and 2 take on the rest in what promises to be an exciting start to the 2006 season. With all the big names in local cricket out on the pitch this weekend, there is no doubt that the action will be fast and furious.

With so much at stake internationally, Cayman Islands cricketers are already in the mode for the big time.

Will we see the continuation of prolific run scoring again or will the bowlers dominate?

The season has much to reward outstanding performances as players strive to catch the eyes of the selectors. Major tournaments include Stanford 20/20 in Antigua, ICC Americas Region World Cup Qualifying Series, and Cayman “A” tour to an affiliate country.

This weekend’s action will take place at the Smith Road Oval, beginning at 12:00 pm on both days. Meeting the players before the start of play will be local competitions sponsor Money Express Director Pastor Steve Blair and CICA President Courtney Myles.

The two days promise to reward spectators with the best that Cayman cricket has to offer, and the public is urged to come out and show their support for our local cricketers.
