LETTER TO THE EDITOR
In some cases, spanking is warranted
Friday, January 20, 2006
Dear Sir,
I believe that in some cases spanking is warranted. In my case, I have two daughters. One is 6 years and the other is 9 months. Now I do discipline my 6-year-old, but only to the extent of tapping her hand when needed.
I do not believe in getting the belt and all that other stuff that some parents do in order to discipline her. I did not like it when my parents did it to me so I made a decision not to do it to them.
Now she clearly understands that she will never get out in public and act a fool as some kids do. But I think that also comes from the parent having a good relationship with their child. Not being their friend, but letting them know you are the parent and you will represent me as well as yourself. My family name will not be disrespected because you cannot have your way. Thus far, I have done a great job in raising my daughter and I hope to continue with my other one. In closing, some kids do need spankings, but then again, some parents need classes on how to be parents.
