LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Making Cayman flower again
Friday, January 20, 2006
Dear Sir,
I was interested to read about the Flower Show which is coming up soon. I think we are still missing a lot of colour and beauty after Hurricane Ivan left its mark. Although some places are blooming again there are still lots of others where flora and fauna is sadly lacking.
Many trees are still bare and gardens have a long way to go before they are back to their former glory.
Moreover too the public areas around the Island seem to be lacking in landscaping too.
I really hope this show spurs all of the Island’s gardeners back into action, it would be terrific to see lots and lots of flora and fauna again.
It was so nice recently seeing all the Christmas lights but now they have come down the place seems dull again.
Flowers lift people’s spirits as well as help to decrease carbon dioxide in the air and ultimately a cleaner environment.
It would be nice if we could find a way of encouraging everyone to plant a tree or a bush or plant of some kind to coincide with the show and get this country looking beautiful again.
In our beautiful tropical climate we can grow so many things which in turn attract beautiful birds and butterflies.
I think it is time for all of us to get out our hoes and spades and get up close and personal with the earth.
Looking forward to the show.
