Ten things you need to know about cats

Cats have real fur coats as they have an under as well
as an outer coat

1. Cats have five toes on each of their front paw, but have only four toes on each back paw.
2. Cats really do have fur because they have both an undercoat and an outer coat.
3. Although people think cats are solitary animals they are social creatures. A domestic cat will respond and answer to speech, and seems to enjoy human companionship.
4. Neutering and spaying cats is important because left to do their own family planning female cats will have kittens every four months.
5. When kittens are born their both eyes and ears are closed. When the eyes first open, they are always blue at first but change colour over a period of months.
6. Cats can live longer than you may think, more than two decades if well looked after.
7. A cat cannot see directly under its nose which is why they miss tidbits on the floor.
8. Cats have AB blood groups just like people and a form of AIDS exists in cats.
9. Often when people have an allergic reaction to a cat it is really to the saliva or to cat dander that they react. If a cat is bathed regularly allergic people can tolerate it better.
10. Cats do not think that they are little people. They think that we are big cats. This influences their behaviour in many ways.
