Child in hit and run

Monday,  February 7, 2006

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, (RCIPS) is appealing for witnesses following a hit and run which left a 9-year-old child with minor injuries.

The incident occurred on Crewe Road at around 8:00 pm on Wednesday, 1 February, when what is believed to be a green SUV and a motorcycle collided.

The motorcycle, carrying a 46-year-old man from George Town and his son, was travelling south along towards Jose’s Gas Station when the collision occurred causing both to fall from the bike.

The child sustained minor injuries to his neck, knee and buttocks. The father sustained minor injuries to his right arm and his right thigh. Both received hospital treatment. The child is now recovering at home.

“The driver of what is believed to be a Green SUV failed to stop and I would appeal directly to the driver to get in touch,” said Police spokeswoman Deborah Denis.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who was in the area and witnessed the collision.

“We would like to take to this opportunity to remind people to be aware of other road users. Bike riders can be vulnerable and both they and car drivers should be aware of each other.”

Anyone with information should contact the Traffic Department on 946 6254 or Crime Stoppers 800 TIPS 8477.
