A new member of the animal family at Boatswain’s Beach has been flown in and is now settling in at the Cayman Turtle Farm. Cassidy the caiman, a 3-foot long, 6–year-old reptile of the crocodilian species, and she arrived just in time for the unveiling of the new Cayman S Porsche launch.

“Cassidy”, the caiman, was sponsored by Christian and Jane van der Bol, owners of Autohaus, the Porsche dealership in Cayman.

The Cayman S Porsche was named after the reptile for its strength and agility.

The caiman settled into her new home, a spacious outdoor exhibit designed with attention to detail ensuring that the fundamental features of the natural habitat were closely replicated, the farm said.

“The first class exhibit was designed by Boatswain’s Beach Assistant Curator of Fish, Scott Taylor, and includes an area of saltwater with dry land on a higher elevation and a fresh water pond,” said a spokesperson from the Turtle Farm.

“The exhibit also features a cave and plants which provide shaded areas for the caiman.”

The new exhibit cost approximately $15,000 and was sponsored by Autohaus as part of its launch of the new car.

Vegetation for the exhibit was donated by the West Indian Club Nursery. Managing Director, of Boatswain’s Beach/Cayman Turtle farm Kenneth Hydes expressed thanks and appreciation to both Autohaus and the West Indian Club Nursery.

“The management and staff are excited to have the caiman on display and we welcome residents and visitors to see this amazing addition to the Cayman Turtle Farm at Boatswain’s Beach,” said Mr Hydes.

Curator of Marine and Research, Catherine Bell, Curator of Terrestrial Exhibits and Education Programmes, Geddes Hislop, and. Scott Taylor were all on hand to receive Cassidy, the caiman, when she arrived on Cayman Airways.
